Measles Alert: Health Officials Issue Warning for King and Snohomish Counties (2026)

Measles Alert: Unvaccinated Children Expose Communities in Washington State—Could You Be at Risk?

Health authorities in Washington State are sounding the alarm after an out-of-state family, including two unvaccinated children, potentially exposed residents in King and Snohomish counties to measles during their holiday visit. But here’s where it gets concerning: the family was contagious from December 27, 2025, to January 1, 2026, and visited multiple public locations before their diagnosis. And this is the part most people miss—measles is highly contagious and can spread even before symptoms like a rash appear, lingering in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.

The family, traveling from South Carolina, included one vaccinated adult and two unvaccinated children. They visited popular spots in Marysville, Mukilteo, and Everett, as well as Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and a nearby car rental facility. If you were at any of the following locations during the specified times, you may have been exposed:

  • 12/27/25, 1–3 p.m.: McDonald’s, 530 128th St. SW, Everett, WA 98204
  • 12/28/25, 2–6:30 p.m.: Slavic Christian Church Awakening, 4223 78th St SW, Mukilteo, WA 98275
  • 12/29/25, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.: Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park, 1325 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett, WA 98208
  • 12/29/25, 1–3 p.m.: Chick-fil-A, 8810 36th Ave, Marysville, WA 98270
  • 12/30/25, 1–3 p.m.: Mukilteo-Clinton Ferry, Mukilteo, WA 98275
  • 12/30/25, 6–9:30 p.m.: Fisherman Jack’s, 1410 Seiner Dr., Everett, WA 98201
  • 1/1/26, 6:45–9 a.m.: Rental car shuttles to/from SEA Airport and Consolidated Rental Car Facility, 3150 S 160th, SeaTac, WA 98188
  • 1/1/26, 7–11:15 a.m.: SEA Airport N Concourse (Gate N4) + Green Train Line, SeaTac, WA 98158

If you’re unsure of your vaccination status or were at these locations unvaccinated, the risk of falling ill peaks between January 4 and January 22. Controversial question: Should unvaccinated individuals face stricter public health restrictions during outbreaks? The Snohomish County Health Department advises:

  1. Verify your vaccination status and ensure you’re up to date on measles vaccines.
  2. Seek immediate medical testing if you develop a fever or rash, calling ahead to avoid spreading the virus.
  3. Limit social contact if exposed, even if asymptomatic.

While most locals are vaccinated, this incident highlights the ongoing debate over vaccine mandates and community immunity. What’s your take? Share your thoughts in the comments—let’s keep the conversation going!
