Anthony Joshua's Emotional Tribute to Lost Friends
Anthony Joshua, the renowned boxer, has expressed profound grief over the tragic deaths of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif 'Latz' Ayodele, who were killed in a car crash in Nigeria. Joshua, who was also in the vehicle, is struggling to come to terms with the loss, highlighting the immense emotional impact of the incident.
The accident, which occurred on a major road near Lagos, involved a collision between the vehicle carrying Joshua, Ghami, Ayodele, and another passenger, and a stationary truck. Joshua, though sustaining minor injuries, was able to fly back to the UK and attend the funeral of his friends, held at a mosque in London.
On Instagram, Joshua shared a heartfelt message, expressing his gratitude for the support he received from fans and friends. He wrote, 'Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn't realize how special they were. I'll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.'
Joshua also reflected on the profound impact of their loss, stating, '100% it's tough for me, but I know it's even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.'
Ghami, Joshua's dedicated sport and exercise rehabilitation coach, had been working with him for over a decade. The day before the crash, Joshua posted a video on Instagram of him playing table tennis with Ayodele, a personal trainer and long-time friend. These moments of camaraderie and friendship were abruptly cut short by the tragic accident.
The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving at Sagamu Magistrates' Court. He was granted bail of 5 million naira (£2,578) and remanded pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions. The case has been adjourned until January 20th.
Joshua, who was born in Watford, has family roots in Sagamu, a town in Ogun state, near the crash site. At the time of the collision, he was en route to visit relatives for New Year celebrations in the town. This tragic event has left a profound mark on Joshua and his loved ones, prompting a period of mourning and reflection.
