Symptoms of TB include a persistent cough, exhaustion, high temperature, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss. The disease is caused by bacteria and can spread through close contact with symptomatic individuals. The Coventry city council encourages residents to be aware of TB symptoms and emphasizes that TB testing and treatment are free on the NHS. A government report reveals a 13.6% increase in TB notifications in 2024, reaching 5,490 people, with a notification rate of 9.4 per 100,000 population, approaching the World Health Organization's threshold for a low-incidence country.
